History of SEO

History of Google

Google was created by two college students as part of there project.As they created this project in there mind was to give people a useful or a resourceful tool.It was a useful tool for people who need variety of informations. They uploaded it as a sub domain of their university.It was used by them and among there friends.At that time when someone search in SEO it didn't provide immediate results.The person who search in Google have to give there Gmail id in which the results will come in 24 hours.They were able to improve it by giving quick results.After there graduation from there University all there friends started to work in different places.

In 1998 all there friends joined together and created a company for Google. They booked a domain as Google . They applied for patent for all machanism used in search engine . Page Rank technology they applied for patent is till now famous.After they received the patent in 2000 they started to use it publicly in march 18 onwards.In  the period 1998-1999 it was only used by few people.In 2000 it started to get popular.


World Trade center Incident 

In 2001, September 11 there was a attack on the World Trade Centre in America.It was a terrorist attack by highjacking two plane by crashing into the building.After the attack on the building people started to search about it on Google but there was no result about it on Google. When the Google officials and search engineers found about the problem in Google they were so ashamed about it. The question of why Google couldn't provide information about World Trade Centre attack was the main topic among the official of Google. They all were stressed about this problem . This will bring bad reputation to the company and people will loose there trust in the company. The company was scared that Google will loose there popularity among the people.They conducted a meeting about the topic about Why Google couldn't provide result about the World Trade Centre incident? When they asked this question in the meeting some of the search engineer's who participated in this meeting give an answer to this question . Which was in those days most of the web page in Google was not crawlable.The search engine has three process which is crawling, caching and indexing. 



Web crawling

Is a software program in Google.It is also known as Spider, Robot, Google bots etc. When google finds out a web page first the Google will crawl the webpage then start to scan and understand its contents then take a snap shot and save it under the respective categories. The saved data is then shown to people who search in Google.

On page or site optimisation -In one as a part of doing SEO we make many changes or modifications. These modifications are called On page optimisation.

Off page optimization - when Google start to index after on page optimisation to improve it's ranking we will do variety activities out side the website. All these activities are called Off page SEO .

Google official then asked another question which was How to make website Crawl Able? Search engineers replied to this question by saying that Only if webmaster think we can make website crawl able . Google cannot make webpage crawl able. They made another suggestion that to make webpage crawl able we can give optimisation document to web master publicly to practice optimisation.But this plan was put down by some of the search engineers because optimisation practice are Google's secret files which cannot be published.It can affect  the existence of Google Company.After lot of discussion they decided to go with the plan itself by publishing the optimisation documents.



They then created a starter guide which has thirty two pages.Which is also called SEO starter guide.This document was published. Using the guide line published to web masters started to practice and make modifications in there websites. Then they started to over practice it in Google. This resulted in getting low quality results. Google started to avoid low quality results. Google start to modify the search engine to maintain quality of there results.

First time Google was content specific. There was competition by increasing keywords. Keyword stuffing is black hat SEO service which is non ethical practices or malpractice. White hat SEO is a ethical practice. When there is more amount of keywords the Google will rank first. Then they start to do keyword stuffing.



Evolution of SEO

Google then change there working tactics by changing there algorithms.After this situation of keyword stuffing Google made there search engine Link specific.Link specific means when link comes other websites to our website which increases the ranking of our website. Google will rank by checking which website get more amount of hyperlinks.

 Webmasters start to do research about How to get more hyperlinks to there website? Many website start to sell there links to other websites.But the webmasters didn't improve there quality of their website. They only focused on How to increase there ranking in Google. Google again change there tactics to Quality Link Specific . Google will give ranking to website only if they get link from quality website. Google introduced Page ranking system or a rating system. Google awarded page ranking to website which have a lot of trusted people or value and quality. To increase page rank webmasters start to buy page rank from other websites. Google was not able to control this situation. Google introduced a new feature which is passing the juice. When we pass equity from one website to another through hyperlinks is called link juice. When website give there page rank to another website they can loose there own rank . 



Google provided another option which is rel=no follow attribute when we add this our equity will not be passed. It is also called no follow link. In 2003-2006 google made a lot of changes in the search engines which also caused a lot of problems. In 2000 Google started a program called Google adwords which is a advertisement program.

 Business owners can promote there business through Google ads. Now it is called Google ads. This program is prepaid program. In 2003 Google created Google Adsense. If we have a website or a u tube channel you can put ads through Google and make earnings from it. Google is afraid about making algorithm changes because they can lower there revenue.

SEO evolution in 2008 was to provide personalised search results. Also provided suggestions mechanism in Google. When we login Google will save the searched data is saved in particular documents. When search about it again we will get results in better positions. 

After 2008 Google started to become like a personal assistant. Which will increase the trust value of people. To give calculation,to get weather updates, IP address details etc. 

In 2009 when people spend a lot of time in a website do a lot of interaction Google put forward a ranking system. When there is a lot of interaction in a website which increases it's ranking. Website which less interaction where demoted. 

Bounce rate - when there is visitors in a website and they don't send a lot of time in the website or go in to the inner pages or subscribing to  the website or they suddenly leave the website it gives a negative mark or issue which affects the website ranking is called Bounce rate. when bounce rate increases which will decrease the trust value of the people. 

To count the interaction in a website Google started data centre's in 2009 using different resources Google started counting the interaction of the websites. Which increases the ranking of the websites.

2010 this year can be called as a social media signals. Google changed there algorithm they made social media as a influential part in ranking system. In 2010 they introduced social media signals because a lot of 80 to 90 % people were crowding in social media like Facebook, Twitter etc . Which had a lot of competition.
